HVAC Frequently Asked Questions
Here's a few of the most frequent questions we get.
When should I check my air filters?
Short answer: More often. It is a very simple task to check your air filters, and once you've seen a clean one, you'll have a pretty good idea of how dirty they get. For a full household we recommend to check your filters monthly. If there are less than 3 people, or the house is frequently unoccupied, you can get away with every other month. If they appear dirty, they should be replaced. Air filters are a primary cause of preventable problems with HVAC systems. Keep them clean for a happy, and healthy, home.
Why is my furnace blowing cool air when set to heat?
This will depend a little on what you mean by "cool" air. A central heat system will only blow air that's around 80 degrees. This air is circulated in order to heat the house up evenly. Surface body temperature is closer to 90+ degrees, so the central heat air will feel "lukewarm" at the register. This is normal.
Of course if your furnace is truly blowing cold air, with no heat added, and the house is not warming up, you have a problem. Check the thermostat is set correctly and your air filters are clean. After that you should call a furnace repair technician to assess any problems and provide an estimate for any repairs.

What's the cost of central HVAC installation?
Unfortunately, there's no quick and easy answer to this question. It will depend so much on the specific situation. The size of the home, whether new or replacement installation, age of the home, intended use, and even personal preferences of indoor temperatures. For a ballpark figure, expect to spend $4000-10000+ depending on brands and needs. Your best bet is to schedule a quote with one of our certified HVAC experts in Spokane. They'll listen to your needs, make recommendations, and provide a plan and quote for your new HVAC installation.
My HVAC system keeps turning on and off. Or won't stop running. Why?
A constantly running HVAC system is a problem of it not being able to keep up with the demands placed on it. There's a couple reasons this could be: 1- Is it unseasonably hot or cold? This could be a temporary issue if the weather is just too much for your system. 2- Are you expecting too much? Are you trying to heat your home to 90 degrees in the winter, or cool it to 50 degrees in the summer? You must be realistic in your expectations. 3- If the weather is "normal", and you have realistic expectations, it could be that your HVAC system is undersized for the service needs, or is showing its age.
If your HVAC system is shutting off and on rapidly without heating or cooling your home appropriately, it could be several things. Your thermostat could be bad, or need batteries, or your airflow could be restricted from dirty filters that need changed.
For any of these situations, beyond changing batteries or air filters, you should call your local Spokane HVAC repair technician for an inspection and assessment. (We are also happy to change your batteries or air filters too). Our HVAC experts can root out the problem and provide a clear and comprehensive plan to ensure you have the comfort you need.

Why is my HVAC system so noisy?
While there are some noises that are considered normal, if you are noticing a new noise it should be checked out. This may sound silly, but go ahead and give us a call and describe the noise. We promise we won't laugh (out loud). You may even be able to play the sound on the phone for a diagnosis. Some sounds are serious, some are not. That's why we're here for you, to put our experience and training at your service. Call and schedule an appointment today with your favorite local Spokane HVAC repair company!
